Matthew MooreMatthew Moore

Matthew Moore is the Director of Rooms and Environmental Programs for the 426-room, Four Diamond Seaport Hotel in Boston. Matt is responsible for identifying and implementing operational efficiencies and service improvements which enhance the guest experience.

He spearheaded and oversees the Seaport’s environmental program “Seaport Saves” which is dedicated to increasing conservation and recycling throughout all aspects of the organization. Matt will speak about the Seaport’s many successful green initiatives such as its extensive lighting, HVAC and mechanical energy conservation initiatives.
 
Rauni KewRauni Kew

Rauni Kew consults on greening hospitality and is frequent speaker on how to successfully market green hotels. She heads up PR & Green program development for the eco-luxury Inn By The Sea on the coast of Maine. The Inn won a Green Lodging certification from Maine’s DEP, a Legislative Sentiment as an Environmental Leader, was selected one of TripAdvisor’s Top Ten Green Hotels worldwide, and Top Ten US Hotels on MSNBC and Forbes Traveler as well as one of Travel & Leisure’s Top 100 Hotels in US & Canada. Ms. Kew also works with the Maine Innkeepers Association and serves on the board of the Greater Portland Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, the Maine Tourism Commission and the advisory board of Eco Rooms. Previously Ms. Kew was Marketing Director for a manufacturer in the Chemical Process Industry, launching high speed dispersion equipment for sludge reduction in activated wastewater treatment plants.

She worked in the technology sector for Glance Networks, Internet screen sharing services, and in production for television and radio news in the New York CBC offices on Park Avenue and at the United Nations.
 

Dan RubenDan Ruben

Dan Ruben is the executive director of Boston Green Tourism  which is a catalyst for expanding the use of environmentally-friendly practices in Greater Boston’s visitor industry. Boston Green Tourism works with local hotels, convention centers and restaurants to make Boston a green convention and tourism destination. It was awarded an Environmental Merit Award by the EPA in April 2008.

Dan recently advised the City of Denver about greening the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

Dan speaks and writes on the subjects of green hospitality, global warming and environmentally sustainable lifestyles.

 

Ray BurgerRay Burger

Ray Burger, President and Founder of Pineapple Hospitality, Inc. (Pineapple) , has over 30 years of experience in the lodging industry, including 18 years as an award-winning general manager and multi-property manager of hotels, including Hilton, Doubletree, Radisson and Holiday Inn. In addition, he has provided the Lodging Industry with environmental products, programs and services for over 12 years. Throughout his career, Ray has maintained a consistent approach to enhancing guest satisfaction, while remaining focused on bottom-line profitability. As a general manager, he consistently increased revenues at his properties by exceeding guest expectations, a philosophy that is fundamental to the operation and product offerings of Pineapple.

Ray is a graduate of Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. He holds a number of certifications, including Certified Hotel Administrator and Master Hotel Supplier. Ray is a columnist for The Rooms Chronicle – the #1 journal for Hotel Rooms Management. He contributes articles on environmental, indoor air quality and energy related topics. Ray is a past member of the AH&LA Environmental and Engineering Committee.

 
 
Leonard W. BuckleyLeonard W. Buckley
Senior Director, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Franchise Operations-North America Division


Len has been with Starwood Hotels for the past 9 years and has held several leadership roles in Operational positions at the hotel level in the Philadelphia area for over 25 years. In his current position as Senior Director of Franchise Operations – North America Division Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, he is responsible for all brands in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Ohio. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. is one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world with approximately 900 properties in more than 100 countries and 155,000 employees at its owned and managed properties. Starwood Hotels is a fully integrated owner, operator and franchisor of hotels, resorts and residences with the following internationally renowned brands: St. Regis(R), The Luxury Collection(R), W(R), Westin(R), Le Meridien(R), Sheraton(R), Four Points(R) by Sheraton, and the recently launched Aloft(SM), and Element(SM).

His primary responsibility is to maintain brand equity by ensuring that individual properties improve their quality performance, utilization of corporate programs and resources as a means of increasing RevPAR, competitive positioning and to drive relationships with primary owners and general managers. He works with Owners of Starwood’s Franchise Key Accounts including HEI, Interstate, Columbia Sussex, Remington Hotels, The Procaccianti Group and White Lodging Hotels.

Len earned a bachelors degree in business administration from Drexel University. Len resides in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania with his wife of 22 years, Nickie Boston and their three children.
 
Bradley J. PacanaBradley J. Pacana

Bradley J. Pacana is Director of Sales and Marketing for the Hotel Palomar, a Kimpton Hotel.   He is responsible for the hotel's total sales, marketing, e-commerce, reservation sales and customer care, and sales channel strategy.  
Mr. Pacana joined Kimpton Hotels in July of 2009 to open Philadelphia’s first Kimpton Property, the Hotel Palomar,  Philadelphia’s first Leed certified hotel. This 230 room project is the first of its kind in the market.  Prior to this Mr. Pacana was the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Philadelphia Airport Marriott and served as Director of Sales Catering for the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown Convention Center Property.  In these capacities he directed activities related to pricing and selling strategies, inventory management and systems development, as well as focus on customer service. Mr. Pacana has been in the Hospitality industry for 15 years in both sales and operation capacities.  

Prior to joining Marriott, he worked for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Philadelphia Pa.  Mr. Pacana is a graduate of Johnson and Wales University and holds an AS degree in Marketing and a BA degree in Hospitality Management.
 
Christine KnappChristine Knapp

Christine Knapp joined PennFuture in July of 2005, with a background in grassroots organizing, issue campaigning and policy work. Knapp’s work at PennFuture is primarily focused on the Next Great City initiative, which is working to implement a common sense, cost effective policy agenda that enhances Philadelphia’s environment, strengthens neighborhoods and increases economic competitiveness.

Previously, Knapp worked for four years at Clean Water Action, working on local air pollution issues stemming from the South Philadelphia Sunoco refinery and advocating for improvements to Philadelphia’s lagging recycling program. In this capacity she organized and recruited participation in the Philadelphia Bucket Brigade, a community based air sampling program. She also served as Secretary for the Community Labor Refinery Tracking Committee, as a Co-coordinator for the Recycling Alliance of Philadelphia and as the Organizer for the Philadelphia Environmental Meet-Up.

Knapp graduated cum laude from Villanova University in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Communications. While at Villanova, she served as a Communications intern for the Philadelphia Streets Department.

Knapp is a frequent guest on news programs such as Fox Philadelphia, CN8 and WHYY’s Radio Times, She is the chair of the Urban Sustainability Forum and is a moderator of PhillyFreecycle. She served on the transition team for Mayor Nutter and won the Florence Neilson award for her work on the board of the Recycling Alliance of Philadelphia.
 
Jeffrey C. LolliJeffrey C. Lolli

Jeff Lolli is an alumnus of Widener University as well as a lecturer there currently. He teaches Introduction to Hospitality Management, Lodging Systems, Resort and Timeshare Management, Facilities Management, Applied Human Resources and Labor Management Relations.

Jeff has over 18 years of experience in the hotel and gaming segments of the hospitality industry with companies such as Wyndham Hotels, Sands Casino Hotel and Harrah’s Entertainment. He has held executive level positions in both food and beverage and hotel operations. He is working towards completion of his Doctorate in Academic Leadership in Higher Education. He is a member of the Professional Convention Management Association Philadelphia Chapter, Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Educators and is Co-Advisor of Widener University’s PCMA Student Chapter. Jeff has obtained various industry certifications such as Certified ServSafe Food Safety Instructor through the National Restaurant Association and Certified Hospitality Educator through the American Hotel and Lodging Association .
 
Paige WolfPaige Wolf

With a roster of clients in the fashion, dining, retail, lifestyle, and arts industries, Paige Wolf Media and Public Relations offers a wide variety of tailored services. Clients have come to PWMPR for development and execution of public relations campaigns, image development, graphic design, ad placement, and special events. PWMPR has made a commitment to serving clients using the most ecologically friendly and sustainable methods available while still communicating their message to targeted demographics. PWMPR encourages clients to utilize electronic mediums to create far less paper waste, and The Paige Turner displays a consistent message of eco-friendly living, highlighting green tips and resources in every issue. PWMPR’s mission includes fostering relationships with eco-friendly businesses, and adding them to her client roster as often as possible. Ed GroseEd Grose
Executive Director Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association


Ed Grose, CAE, is Executive Director of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association (GPHA) which has 87 hotel members and over 140 Allied Members throughout the Delaware Valley.   In this role, Grose oversees the day to day management of the Association and has served in a number of capacities, including on Mayor John F. Street’s Philadelphia Advisory Gaming Taskforce, the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors, the Multicultural Affairs Congress Board of Directors, and on the Philadelphia Taxi Cab Advisory Committee.  Grose also works closely with city and state government officials on issues impacting the hospitality industry, including the 2008 Philadelphia Hotel Occupancy Tax.

Prior to joining GPHA, Grose was the Executive Director of the Architectural Glass and Metal Association and co-founder of the Mid Atlantic Construction Safety Council.  He started his association management career as Legislative Affairs/Safety Director for the Sheet Metal Contractors Association located in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania where he worked on a variety of issues including OSHA legislation.

After graduating from Oregon State University, Grose came to Philadelphia to row on historic Boathouse Row. He was a member of the U.S. National Team for 5 years – a career highlighted by a gold medal at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar Del Plata, Argentina and a 5th place finish at the World Championships in Tampere, Finland. He resides in Broomall, PA with his wife Betsy and three children.
